Presents scholarly analysis, theoretical discussion, informed viewpoints, or critical perspectives on relevant issues in animal welfare, wildlife conservation, biodiversity protection, veterinary science, or wildlife management.
Recommended length: 1,500–4,000 words
The word counts above are recommended guidelines rather than automatic rejection thresholds. Manuscripts that are substantially longer may be considered where their length is appropriate and justified by the scientific content.
Preparing Your Manuscript
Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the IJAWR Author Guidelines. Submissions should be clearly organized, appropriately formatted, and written in clear academic language.
Depending on the nature of the research, manuscripts should clearly describe the study objectives, research methods, study area, animal or species information, data collection procedures, statistical analyses, results, and scientific implications.
Where relevant, authors should provide scientific names of species, study locations, sampling methods, relevant environmental conditions, and sufficient methodological detail to support the interpretation and reproducibility of the research.
Research involving animals or wildlife should include appropriate information regarding animal welfare safeguards, ethical approval, wildlife handling procedures, field research permissions, and measures taken to minimise disturbance or harm.
Where the journal's double-blind peer-review process applies, authors should ensure that identifying information is removed from the manuscript and that the submitted files are prepared in accordance with the journal's peer-review requirements.
Originality & Similarity
IJAWR expects every submitted manuscript to represent original scholarly work.
Submitted manuscripts may undergo similarity checking as part of the editorial screening process. Similarity results are assessed in context and are not treated as an automatic pass-or-fail measure.
Where significant or inappropriate similarity is identified, authors may be asked to revise, clarify, or appropriately attribute the relevant material. Depending on the nature and severity of the issue, the manuscript may be declined in accordance with the journal's policies.
Authors should ensure that animal observations, wildlife survey results, laboratory findings, photographs, datasets, and other research materials are reported accurately and have not been fabricated, falsified, or misleadingly presented.
Authorship
All individuals listed as authors should have made appropriate scholarly contributions to the manuscript and should approve the final version submitted to IJAWR.
The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the journal and confirming that all authors agree to the submission.
Authors should also review the Authorship and Contributorship Policy before submission. Contributions from field researchers, laboratory personnel, animal care staff, and other collaborators should be acknowledged appropriately where they do not meet the journal's authorship criteria.
Ethical & Responsible Research
Authors are expected to comply with applicable standards of research and publication ethics, including relevant animal welfare regulations, institutional requirements, wildlife conservation laws, and responsible scientific practices.
Depending on the nature of the research, authors may be required to provide information regarding:
- Animal research ethics approval and the approving institutional committee, where applicable
- Animal welfare safeguards, humane procedures, and measures to minimise pain, distress, or unnecessary disturbance
- Wildlife handling, capture, tagging, sampling, transportation, and release procedures, where applicable
- Field research permissions and permits for protected areas, wildlife reserves, or regulated research activities
- Legal authorisation for research involving protected or endangered species, where required
- Informed consent for relevant human-participant research, including studies involving human–wildlife interactions or community interviews
- Conflicts of interest and funding
- Data availability and access to supporting research materials
- Third-party permissions for photographs, figures, maps, and other copyrighted content
- Use of artificial intelligence tools and other relevant research or publication declarations, in accordance with journal policy
Authors must ensure that research involving endangered or protected species does not violate applicable conservation laws or unnecessarily threaten the survival, welfare, or habitat of the species concerned.
Research involving wild animals should use scientifically justified methods and appropriate safeguards to minimise harm, stress, habitat disturbance, and risks to animal populations. Authors should not disclose sensitive locations of endangered species where publication could increase risks such as poaching, illegal collection, or habitat disturbance.
Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, integrity, originality, and ethical presentation of their submitted work.
Submission & Peer Review
Manuscripts submitted to IJAWR undergo an initial editorial screening to determine whether they meet the journal's basic requirements and are suitable for further consideration.
Manuscripts that meet the journal's editorial requirements may proceed to external peer review in accordance with the IJAWR Peer Review Policy. Where the double-blind review model applies, identifying information is withheld from reviewers and authors in accordance with the applicable procedure.
Authors may be asked to revise their manuscript in response to editorial or reviewer comments. Where revisions are requested, authors should submit the revised manuscript together with a clear response to the comments received.
The final publication decision is made by the editorial team based on the overall assessment of the manuscript, its scientific merit, ethical compliance, and the applicable journal policies.
Article Processing Charge
An Article Processing Charge (APC) may apply to manuscripts formally accepted for publication.
The APC is not a submission fee and is not intended to influence editorial or peer-review decisions.
Payment of an APC does not guarantee acceptance, publication, indexing, or citation.
Authors should review the separate Article Processing Charge, Refund & Withdrawal Policy for current charges and applicable payment and refund conditions.
Copyright & Licensing
Authors should review the IJAWR Copyright & Licensing Policy before submission.
Unless otherwise stated, IJAWR research articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, subject to the terms of the applicable IJAWR policy.
Authors remain responsible for ensuring that third-party material included in their manuscript, including wildlife photographs, illustrations, maps, and datasets, is appropriately licensed or used with the necessary permission.
After Acceptance
Following formal acceptance, the manuscript proceeds through the journal's production and publication process.
Authors may be required to:
- Review and approve publication proofs
- Confirm author, species, and article information for accuracy
- Provide final information or declarations, including relevant ethical approval details where applicable
- Respond to production queries before publication
The publication process may include formatting, metadata preparation, DOI assignment where applicable, and other production activities necessary to create and maintain the published Version of Record.
